American Anime
Most westerners tend to be shocked by what is animated in Japan. The rule in Japan is that if a movie can be done by real actors in a live action film, then it can be done by animated characters in an anime. Violence in AnimationIn fact, at times it is preferred since what can be drawn has no bounds. A film that would be excessively costly by real actors could be done at a mere fraction of the cost in animated form. Thus just about any theme can be found in anime. These can range from explicit pornography to educational childrenās shows. Overall, though, anime are directed at a wide audience. As such, they normally have stories that do not insult the intelligence of the viewer, though still understandable by children. Likewise the characters have complex personalities and sometimes the line between good and evil becomes vague. Concepts such as sex, death and failure are not avoided. Speed RacerThis leads to the misconception that anime are all sex and violence. This is simply not the case, as cartoons like Speed Racer and Marmalade Boy show.

Animated Characters
Some created animated characters able to respond intelligently to task-level commands such as "walk over to the table and pick up the book". User commands or high-level scripts provide task commands, and the software automatically generates the underlying motion to complete the task.Potential applications include virtual reality, video games, web avatars, desktop movie studios, and other real-time virtual human simulations (urban / industrial / military).

Disney Animation
There are some Disney movies not on this list, because they are not of the "animated masterpieces" canon by Disney's own reckoning. This seems to be because they have been produced not by their feature animation division, but by their television animation division. Also not here are their Direct to Video animated movies and their sequels. The most notable movies of this category are:Duck Tales: Treasure of the Lost Lamp A Goofy Movie and An Extremely Goofy Movie Return of Jafar, Aladdin and the King of Thieves (sequels to Aladdin),Beauty and the Beast: Enchanted Christmas,The Little Mermaid: Return to the Sea,Simba's Pride (sequel to Lion King) And then there's a third category of movies not listed here. These are partially animated Disney movies, which therefore also fail the "animated masterpieces" standards. These are Pete's Dragon,Bedknobs and Broomsticks,Song of the South, Mary Poppins

Hanna Barbera animation
The first made for TV cartoon from Hanna-Barbera Productions was Ruff and Reddy. The show first appeared on December 14, 1957 on NBC-TV, and was telecast in black and white until June 1959. The show included a live host. Jimmy Blaine was the show's host up until the end of the first run in October 1960. Blaine also shared his hosting duties with two bird puppets named Rhubarb the Parrot and Jose the Toucan. The show later returned in reruns in September 1962, and ran another two years before leaving the network. During its second run, the show was hosted by Captain Bob Cottle and three different puppets named Jasper, Gramps, and Mr. Answer.Ruff and Reddy never attained extreme popularity, but as their first experiment in limited animation, it was a total success for Hanna and Barbera. Their debut show validated the idea that limited animation could work well in the television medium. Over the next few years, Hanna and Barbera perfected the limited animation concept through mass production. They began to churn out new animated series more quickly. Though visually the animation was not film studio quality, Hanna-Barbera began to come up with bang-up comedic scripts and polished sound effects. These added amenities helped many viewers to ignore the weaknesses in the animation and still enjoy a good cartoon.

Japanese Animation
Anime (アニメ) is Japanese animation, sometimes billed in the west under the portmanteau Japanimation. It is often characterized by stylized colorful images depicting vibrant characters in a variety of different settings and storylines, aimed at a variety of different audiences. Anime is influenced by the drawing style of manga, or Japanese comics.Though filmmakers in Japan had been experimenting with animation beforehand, the first widely popular anime series was Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy in 1963. During the 1970s, anime developed further, separating itself from its Western roots, and developing unique genres such as giant robots (popularly known among English-speaking fans as mecha). Notable shows in this period include Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, Lupin III and Mazinger Z.In the 1980s, anime experienced a boom in production. The start of the Gundam franchise and the beginnings of Rumiko Takahashi's career have their roots here. Akira set records in 1988 for the production costs of an anime. The 1990s and 2000s saw the increased acceptance of anime in overseas markets. Cowboy B
